Description: Film documentation of the Johannisreitens (upper Sorbian: Janske jěchanje, lower Sorbian: Janske rejtowanje) in Casel (today a district of Drebkau). It is a custom that is carried out on a Sunday around June 24. It is still practiced only in this village. The "Johannis", sorb. "Jan", reminds of a growth spirit, which the villagers try to prevent from riding away. They snatch some flowers from him, which are then kept at home as lucky and healing plants. You can see the preparations, the decorating of Johannis, the winding of the tendrils, the putting on of the crown, the arrival of the other riders with the band, the procession through the village to the riding field, accompanied by the band and the girls wearing a second crown, the riding competition and the "plucking" of Johannis and then the return to the village.
